Hi, I'm Matthew Haggett. I'm a 36 year old artist living in Portland, Oregon. I grew up the son of a small-town veterinarian on an island off the coast of Maine. All my life I have been interested in the visual arts, first showing an ability for drawing as a young boy. I have a BA in studio art (92) and a Masters of Fine art (96). I moved to Portland in 1992 largely because the city had a good reputation for art and music.

I'm known regionally for my abstract art -- I show at Butters Gallery in Portland. I am currently the visiting artist with Blik. Recently, I have been revisiting my skill at realistic rendering and working on pet portraits. I love animals -- currently between my girlfriend and I, I live with six pets. In doing these animal drawings, I have been enjoying doing looser, more improvised and gesturally spontaneous art. My abstract work is very computer-intensive and mechanical right now. More on that in my "Artist Statement," if you like.

I also do graphic design work and other illustration at reasonable freelance rates. See my abstract art at www.MatthewHaggett.com. Have a great day,
