This price range --$45 to $295 -- will give you a good idea of how much a portrait will cost. This is custom art, so we will need to communicate about the project and I will give you a price quote based on the artwork specifications we come up with. In almost all cases, these guidlelines provide exact cost & I will quote a listed price. Only in infrequent cases do they need to be adjusted -- unusual dimensions, content, or media. Prices are based on size, medium, and complexity. These prices are quoted for photo-standard dimensions. with a variety of options. Size: To save the customer money on framing, I recommend using photo-standard dimensions (8"X10", 11"X14", etc) so that prefabricated frames will fit the work. I will gladly quote prices for other sizes. Medium: Full color watercolor and B&W ink pieces cost the same. Pencil pieces cost less. Complexity: More complex content costs more. An overview of simple content and complex content is as follows: Simple content: one animal, simple background (blank, color-field, or loose background). Complex content: two animals, two views of the same animal, detailed background (realistic, complex environment). Add people: include a human in either a simple or complex content image. |

NEW! Pet portraits on ceramics 14" plates:
1 animal for $100, 2 animals for $140 For pricing on other sizes, mediums, and types of content, please feel free to contact me. Artwork Specifications are the general description of the commissioned artwork: how large it is and what it looks like -- full color, black and white, what is shown in the picture, etc. The art can be as simple or complicated as you want -- from a pencil sketch of your puppy snoozing (B&W, simple) to a completely rendered full color scene (full color, complex, add people and full scene detail). If you can imagine what you'd like & describe it, I can give you an exact price quote. I can do any content you like -- people, places, and things -- aside from just your pet. Price quotes are no-cost, no-obligation. Call me on the phone, send me email or conventional mail. (contact info) Email or mail me a photo if possible. We will discuss the desired artwork and -- based on your description -- I'll give you a price quote & estimated production time. Discounts are at my discretion. Friends & Family discount? Sure thing. Discount for multiples? Yep. If, say, you had three beloved animals & wanted a tryptic of B&W 8"X10"s featuring each one, I'd surely knock off some per-item cost. If you steer a customer my way, let me know & I'd give you a discount for that, too. Maybe there is a special discount on the "specials" page... I offer gift certificates. An easy & convenient way to give the gift of a custom pet portrait. All the details at Gift Certificate Central. Production time is based on the artwork specifications & my other workload. Average projected turn around time is 5-10 working days (from receipt of reference photos to delivery of finished art work). Once the artwork specifications, price, and turn-around-time are established, and reference photos are supplied, that is it. Payment in full will need to be received before artwork is released but I only will ask for a deposit if I am providing photography services. I take check, money order, cash and Paypal. Through Paypal, I can take any kind of credit card or other Paypal-compatible payment method. Paypal gives you complete on-line shopping protection and is super easy to use -- even if you've never used it before. www.PayPal.com is the site & my account is for Matt@PetsByMatt.com. Payment in full (including shipping costs) is required before artwork will be released. Working from photos is the easiest way to go. I can provide photo services but generally work from clients' photographs. The better the reference material, the more accurate the end product will be. From incomplete or poor quality photos, the final result will look just as aesthetically appealing but less accurate than one from high quality reference material. If the result you want is stylized or cartoonish, low quality reference materials are fine. But for accuracy and detail, accurate details need to be present in the reference materials. For the absolutely best results, independently lit photos are far superior to flash-on photos. Flash-on photography works adequately but creates unnatural-appearing lighting effects. Accurately rendering a flash-on photo will convey the unnatural lighting effects. "Normalizing" a flash-on photo to make the final art look like it the subject is lit by conventional lighting sources involves interpretation and reduces apparent accuracy. For example, "Lucy, bust" is drawn from flash-on photography and "normalized" to give the appearance of conventional lighting. The result captures the Vizsla puppy's cuteness but is more "cartoonish" and less "realistic" than some of the other portfolio pieces. Here is the "after + before." High res JPEGs are ideal -- most new digital cameras capture great amounts of information + are ready to email without any other conversion steps. Conventional photos work fine, too. Drop them off or send them by conventional mail. If you are emailing digital photos, the larger the file the better. Original photo prints will be returned with the finished artwork.. I have equipment -- lights, camera, etc. -- and can shoot photos to use as reference material. I include approx. 1 hour of no-cost photography in any order of $180 and up (guaranteed time enough to cover one free photo session + travel in the Portland area). For orders under $180 and time beyond the first session, I charge $45/hour for photography. If I am providing photography services, I require a 50% downpayment. If the order is canceled and photography services have been used, there is a $45 non-refundable fee that will be deducted from the refundable total. I have no studio facility and do not produce art-quality photography or prints. I can provide reference for good studio photographers if needed. I use an on-line framing resource that custom-fabricates frames & mats fast & inexpensively in a wide variety of material & color options. They do everything but glass (can't send glass through the mail) and for a $20 fee I will gladly design & order your frame / mat, making sure that your custom art will fit right & look good. If you pay for the frame directly to the vendor (it is easy to set up an account with credit card or pay pal), I don't apply any up-charge to the materials. Or I can include the cost of the frame in your bill for a modest 4%-of-the-cost-of-the-frame fee. We can discuss framing when detailing the Artwork Specifications at the beginning of your order. I will ship artwork anywhere using the delivery service of your choice. You pay the cost of postage (to be included with balance when the artwork is approved). Prices vary by size, type of service, and insurance but it should be under $10 for an unframed 8"X10" piece. I will provide shipping estimates as requested & require shipping to be paid along with full balance prior to releasing artwork. For orders over $350, shipping is free. If the client is not satisfied with the work, I guarantee to either A) revise or replace the work so that it is acceptible or B) cancel the order at the approval stage and provide a refund for everything except a $45 charge if my photography services have been used. Commissioned artwork must be approved before it is delivered (on-line, email, printed proof, or in person). Once approved and delivered, the work can be returned for a full refund (less shipping costs & photography fee) within 5 days. If the client wants revisions made to the work, I will be glad to revise, re-work, or replace artwork. It is very common to want some amount of editing done to nearly-complete work -- don't be shy to ask. Please request changes during preview / approval. All shipping costs are non-refundable. I will revise or replace artwork within reasonable parameters, set at my discretion. If I deem editing requests to be unreasonable (in amount or nature), I reserve the right to cancel the commission. I will only do so if I feel that the client can not be satisfied, expects an amount or type of work not covered in the agreed-upon artwork specifications, or has not commissioned artwork in good faith. Shipping insurance is strongly recommended -- I am not liable for damage incurred during shipping. Right to Refuse Service & Other Rights I have the right to refuse service to anyone or to cancel commissioned work. I have the right to change the prices, conditions, and terms listed on this site at any time. Discounts and special offers are at my discretion and may be offered or discontinued without notice. Philosophically I operate on the honor system and good faith. I honor verbal communication and email string as adequate contract for this work. Client satisfaction is my goal & I pledge fairness and ethics in my business practices. I hope you choose a PetsByMatt pet portrait. I look forward to working with you.
